US President Joe Biden has warned Russia that it will pay a “heavy price” if the country uses chemical weapons in Ukraine.
“I will not talk about intelligence, but Russia will pay a heavy price if it uses chemicals,” he told Biden.
According to the US government, the Russian government has used chemical weapons both in the 2020 poisoning of Russian opposition leader Alexey Navalny and in 2018 against Sergei and Yulia Skripal in England.
Both US determinations led to sanctions under the Chemical and Biological Weapons Control Act and the Elimination of War. Based on this act, the President should impose economic and diplomatic sanctions if it is discovered that a country has used chemical weapons.
