Britain has accused the Kremlin of seeking to establish a pro-Russian leader in Ukraine. The British Foreign Office said in a statement that it had information that the Russian government was helping former Ukrainian MP Yevhen Murayev to head a pro-Russian government.

“The misinformation spread by the British Foreign Office is further evidence that it is the Anglo-Saxon-led NATO countries that are escalating tensions over Ukraine,” said Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova.
The comments by British officials come at a time when senior US and Russian diplomats have not reached an agreement on the crisis. Russia has amassed more than 100,000 troops on its border with Ukraine, but insists it has no plans to attack it.
Russia has made several demands on the United States, including a halt to NATO eastward expansion and a pledge that Ukraine will never be allowed to join the Western military alliance, which Washington has said is unacceptable.
