A British student has told local newspapers how she was horrified by the fear of being raped and killed when a sex predator disguised as a taxi driver took her hostage in the car to attack her.
Zoe Laidler had gone out with friends one evening in Newcastle when it started and her surprise.
As she was about to return home, the 24-year-old got into a car parked near the taxi rank.
But instead of the destination driver Nazeem Murad took him to a secluded panoramic area in Tynemouth, where he would sexually assault her.
Zoe has already spoken with her name and face after the attacker was sentenced to four years in prison for kidnapping and assaulting the person.
Murad is already on the run as the sentence was handed down in absentia.
The former medical student said: “I sincerely believed that I would be raped and killed. After a few minutes I realized he was taking me to the beach. I cried and begged him to let me go but he did not want to know. “I was sending my location to friends and begging for help.”
“I finally believed I would be raped or killed and I thought the police would at least find my body as I documented where they were taking me.”
“I thought of jumping out of the car but he could come back and pick me up easily, I was frozen in fear.”
Zoe tells how when they reached the coast, Murad asked him if he thought “the moon was romantic”.
She says that at the moment she was expecting the worst, but suddenly as she cried and asked to let him go, “he blew up and turned the car back”.
The hostage-taker had let him go but Zoe reported the assault and kidnapping to the police, and Murad was arrested.
But after being released on parole during the trial, he left Britain and was subsequently sentenced in absentia.
Zoe tells how the horror she went through has left consequences in her life, creating a phobia of using taxis and she has to use the car even when she has consumed alcohol.
“I know it’s wrong but I was so terrified of taxis that I even got in the car when I drank on the weekends. My license was revoked for two years and I am even more sorry for that. “He has changed my life, I do not trust men and I have not dated anyone since.”
