New York Mayor Eric Adams announced today that the Grammy Award winner provided financial assistance to fire victims in the Bronx, where she grew up, reports AP.
Most of the victims are from the Gambia and the families planned to bury them in their homeland in West Africa, so Cardi B undertook to pay the costs of repatriating the bodies, the mayor’s office announced.
“I am extremely proud to be from the Bronx. I have many family members and friends who still live and work there. “When I heard about the fire and all the victims, I realized I had to do something and help,” said Cardi B.
New York authorities said earlier that the January 9 fire in the Bronx building was the deadliest in three decades and that it was caused by a malfunction in the heating system.
