Russia is becoming increasingly isolated in the international arena following the aggression in Ukraine. Even Vladimir Putin’s great ally, Chinese President Xi Jingping, does not seem to support the continuation of the conflict.
Reports in foreign media indicate that the two leaders had a telephone conversation between them.
Chinese state television CCTV stressed that this is the first telephone conversation between them since February 25 and Xi, has sent a clear message to his Russian counterpart:
“All parties must seek to find an appropriate solution to the crisis, as responsibly as possible.”
According to the official Beijing media, Jingping added that China “is ready to continue to play its role in this regard”, while urging the idea that the conflict should be resolved by agreement.
Russia, for its part, continues to be skeptical of the West. Washington is playing with fire on the Ukraine issue, at a time when Moscow is demanding maximum care and restraint from escalating, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov was quoted as saying by the news agency.
“The United States is playing a dangerous game,” he said, reiterating calls to cut off arms supplies to Ukraine, especially the HIMARS anti-aircraft system.
The United Kingdom has decided to send these long-range missiles to Ukraine, despite Russia’s threats to the West.
