Prince Charles has secured some really fat donations that are now being watched carefully, CNN says, citing a British newspaper report that the heir to the British throne once received a luggage worth 1 million euros in cash from a Qatari politician.
According to the Sunday Times, the suitcase contained one of three payments totaling 3 million euros and was given to the prince by former Qatari Prime Minister Sheikh Hamad Al Thani in the period 2011-2015. CNN clarifies that he himself has not verified independently these Sunday Times claims.
“The sheikh’s donations were immediately passed on to one of the Prince’s charities, which ensures that all due process has been followed,” said sources from the royal palace, who strongly disagree with the details of the article. They do not deny the existence of donations, but complain that the report of the well-known newspaper contains errors, and clarified that their lawyers have already been involved in this matter.
The Sunday Times reports that the payments were deposited in the accounts of the Prince of Wales Charitable Fund (PWCF), an entity that finances private projects and its properties in Scotland. The American media giant underlines that there are currently no suggestions that the payments were illegal.
