One of the engine propellers of the plane that had problems after taking off from Denver and crashed to the ground in a residential area had signs of metal consumption, investigators said.
The National Transportation Safety Board said the propeller will undergo further examinations. Flight 328 was able to land at Denver Airport on Saturday, but parts of the engine crashed over the houses below, thankfully injuring no one. Boeing has recommended landing all its 777 aircraft with the same engine. He said 128 planes should be suspended until the inspection is completed. United Airlines, Egyptair and operators in Japan and South Korea have all said they will not launch their Boeing 777s.
U.S. investigators meanwhile said two parts of the propeller of Flight 328’s Pratt & Whitney engine had broken. One of them showed signs of metal consumption and investigators believe it snapped damaging the rest as well. However they should be sent to the laboratory for further examination by security inspectors. The United Flight 328 plane was carrying 231 passengers and was en route to Honolulu when it also recorded the incident on its right engine.
Passengers on board spoke of a powerful explosion shortly after takeoff and said the plane began to shake violently and even lost altitude. Thankfully the plane was able to return to the airport, but parts of the engine were found scattered in a nearby residential area.
