After 16 years, for the first time in Albania, exports of agricultural products decreased.
According to INSTAT data for last year, exports of vegetables and greens reached 8,830 million Lekë, with a decrease of 0.4% compared to 2020. The head of the United Farmers Union, Eduart Sharka says that if agriculture is not subsidized as in the country of the region, our farmers will cultivate the land less and less.
“Exports would fall because this sector is in chaotic and unregulated development. The interest of farmers has been lost to work and produce agricultural products that went for export. Interest has been lost because the cost of the product is high, the selling price is low, the profit is also declining, this makes the Albanian farmer have a weak economy. “At one point, one season was cut short due to the market crisis, another season due to the poor quality of agricultural inputs.”, said Sharka.
“We have now stated that 30% this year have not ordered seedlings to plant their greenhouses, they have no interest. ”
The poor quality of tomato seedlings, the increase in the price of agricultural preparations and the lack of subsidies made the European market lose interest in Albanian agricultural products.
