A serious case occurred in Kumanovo, Northern Macedonia, where three people opened the grave of the late Jelena Filipov.
They opened the coffin and started searching the body to find the jewelry, as according to them the deceased was buried along with gold.
During the search, they failed to find anything, while the Basic Public Prosecutor’s Office in Kumanovo has filed charges against three people.
“Two 30-year-olds and a 32-year-old, all from Kumanovo, together and with prior agreement, on the night of October 9 and 10, in the city cemetery in Kumanovo, tried to seize the belongings of other persons with intent to misappropriate them. With hand tools, the shovels removed the marble slab that covered one of the graves, after which they began to dig the ground and reached the coffin where the body of the late Jelena Filipov was located. They opened the coffin and started searching the body to find gold jewelry, as they knew the deceased was suspected to have been buried with gold on it. “During the search, they did not manage to find anything, for which they did not complete the crime”, it is stated in the notification of the Prosecution.
Jelena Filipov, 18, died last January during a car accident while traveling with two other people in Skopje.
Nikola Stefanovski, a 20-year-old man from Kumanovo, who was driving the car, was sentenced to 7 years and 6 months.
