The Western coalition in Iraq today released footage of the neutralization of two attack drones attempting to strike the base of Ain Al-Assad.
Armed drones crashed before attacking an air base in western Iraq, a U.S.-led coalition official said, adding that this was not the first attack.
“Two drones loaded with explosives were destroyed in the air this morning by the defense systems of Al-Assad air base,” the official said.
“This is the second attack in 24 hours targeting the coalition and the base near Baghdad airport,” he added.
The attacks come at a time when Tehran and allied countries held a memorial service yesterday for the assassination of Commander Kasem Soleimani two years ago in a US drone strike, vowing revenge.
NATO coalition troops in Iraq say they are already there with non-combat but training and advisory roles.
“But even though we have closed combat missions, we have our right to self-defense,” said the US official.
