Sheikh Mohammed’s ex-wife, Princess Haya has won the right to decide on the education and medical care of children.
After a long court battle between the separated couple, a court in Britain has ruled that the ruler of Dubai he will have no face-to-face physical contact with his two children from his marriage to Princess Haya, nor will he have the right to decide on their upbringing after receiving complaints about his “abusive behavior”.
After two and a half years of legal proceedings, which began when Haya left him for Britain with his two children in April 2019, the England and Wales family court said that Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid al-Maktoum had “consistently displayed coercive behavior towards family members who behaved against his will.”
Judge Andrew McFarlane ruled that Haya was solely responsible for the education and medical care of the children, as her ex-husband, the ruler of Dubai and the prime minister of the United Arab Emirates, had caused domestic abuse and psychological harm to the children.
Sheikh Mohammed had sought in court the return to Dubai of daughter Jalila, now 14, and son Zayed, now 10, but McFarlane has said the Dubai summons has admitted the children will live in England with their mother.
In the verdict the judge said that Sheikh Mohammed’s non-participation in court hearings except by lawyers, and lack of expression of remorse for the conduct was another influential factor.
In her testimony, Haya, who last year won a record divorce payment of around milionë 500 million, said: “I can not share parental responsibilities with someone who is not considered a parent of children nor is it mentioned in the documents. “I thank Aanglina for her hospitality and understanding, which strengthened our faith in justice.”
A statement from Sheikh Mohammed’s representatives said: “He loves his children and rejoices in their love. He has always taken care that they have everything and denies the arguments made in the disputed court procedure “.
