An unnamed man has been beaten to death by a crowd of worshipers after reports that he had committed “a sacramental act” in a sacred temple in India.
The death was confirmed by police in the Indian city of Amritsar, who added that it happened during Saturday prayers at the Florin Temple.
According to reports, the man had entered the “sacred sanctum”, where the sacred book of the Sikh faith, ‘Guru Granth’, is located.
When he had entered the secluded division, he had raised the ceremonial sword placed next to the book, but was stopped by the security guards and the believers before committing further acts with it.
Serious developments had occurred during the Saturday prayers and appeared on television, as is usually the case with the evening prayer.
Details of what happened next are few, but police have confirmed that her husband was found dead when they arrived at the scene.
Investigations into the dynamics of events continue.
The development comes just 24 hours after another man is believed to have been beaten to death when he tried to remove a flag of the Sikh faith – called Nishan Sahib – from a temple in the neighboring town of Kapurthala.
The two incidents have sparked stern warnings from Punjab provincial police against self-inflicted violence.
