The EU does not hide fears that the Ukraine crisis could spread. European Union foreign policy chief Josep Borrell said the bloc countries are concerned about the threat posed by Ukraine’s neighbors, including Moldova, Georgia and the Western Balkans.
“Nwe are worried about what might happen in the regionSaid Borrell. ““We fear that Russia will not stop in Ukraine and that Russian influence may begin to operate in neighboring countries.”he added.
In response to the crisis in Ukraine, the EU for the first time in history has announced that it will use its funds to help the Ukrainians militarily. This EU initiative includes about 45 million euros that will be used for military equipment . The EU has already imposed tough sanctions on Russia. Russia began its occupation of Ukraine on February 24 and since then fierce fighting has been going on.
The EU plan to finance the arms purchase is unprecedented and would use millions of Euros to help purchase air defense systems, anti-tank weapons, ammunition and other military equipment for the Ukrainian armed forces. The plan would also provide supplies such as fuel, protective clothing, helmets and first aid kits.
