A lucky man found about $ 7 million inside an auction-bought closet, before losing fortune again in another twist of fate.
The treasure hunter discovered the staggering amount on the used bedside table he had bought at an auction for $ 500.
Auctioneer Dan Dotson, who presents the American television program ‘Storage Wars’, reveals that in 2018 one of his buyers made the shocking revelation after accepting the offer at auction.
In images shared on social media he explained that at a charity event in California a woman told him about the discovered wealth.
Dan said: “There was an elderly Asian woman at the table next to mine who looked at me as if she wanted to tell me something.”
“Consequently she approached me and told me that her husband was working with someone who had bought a storage unit from me for $ 500 and had found a safe inside.
“And the first person called to open it could not, or did not want to do it. Many cupboards have their own safes, which inside should normally be empty, but this time it was not empty. “There was $ 7.5 million in cash.”
But the lucky buyer failed to keep the found property as he was consequently forced to return the money to their owners.
Dan told the network The Blast that the treasure hunters were quickly contacted by a lawyer, who represented the novice owners of the closet.
The lawyer reportedly offered a $ 600,000 reward to the finders but the offer was rejected.
While a second offer of $ 1.2 million was finally accepted and the buyer had to return the rest of the money.
Dan wondered how anyone could leave so much money hidden in a safe.
“$ 7.5 million in a closet, this is not easily forgotten but of course someone else owns it. “Maybe something happened, an expired credit card, they were displaced or someone ended up in jail, who knows what happened.”
