The European Union has announced the launch of its long-awaited ETIAS visa scheme, which will launch in May 2023 and which means that from this date to enter Europe you have to pay.
The procedure to get an ETIAS is quick and done online, yet there are some requirements and a cost to get it, similar to the United States scheme, ESTA, which will cost 7 euros.
Visa approval is expected to be granted “within minutes”, for about 95% of applicants, according to a new memo issued by the EU.
But the maximum time required for approval can be up to a month in “very exceptional cases”.
Even for Albanian citizens, on the ETIAS website, or otherwise the European Travel Information and Authorization System, it is clarified that all those who wish to travel to any of the Schengen area countries will have to apply and obtain such a visa.
Only EU nationals are excluded and have the freedom to move around the bloc, allowing them to spend as much time as they want in many countries.
But for everyone else ETIAS will be mandatory. The move affects about 60 countries, including the US and the UK.
ETIAS is valid for an unlimited number of entries for three years. However, holders of this visa must adhere to the rules of immigration and excessive stay in one country.
