Two days ago, it was 18 years since the founding of the technology giant ‘Facebook’. On February 4, 2004, Facebook, an online social networking site, was founded by Mark Zuckerberg with four of his roommates, Eduardo Saverin, Andrew McCollum, Dustin Moskovitz, and Chris Hughes, while studying at Harvard University.
Thus, from February 4, 2004, the way of communication in the world changed radically.
But what does the name “Facebook” mean?
The name “Facebook” comes from a glossary of textbooks that students at several American universities are provided with. The founders initially restricted Facebook membership to Harvard students only, but later expanded it to Boston, Princeton, Yale, and Stanford universities.
Gradually, Facebook opened up to students in colleges and other universities, then to high school students, and finally to all 13-year-olds around the world. In 2012, Facebook was valued as a $ 104 billion business company.
In the 17 years of its existence, Facebook has only seen an increase in both revenue and number of users, despite the scandal over the sale of users’ personal data for which founder Mark Zuckerberg was forced to answer to US authorities.
