One week after the start of the attack on Ukraine, Russian forces have taken control of the important port city in the south of the country, Kherson, the first to pass completely under the control of Moscow troops.
Mayor Igor Kolykhaev said Moscow soldiers entered the town hall and imposed a curfew on all residents. He practically begged not to be shot at civilians, assuring the Russians that there were no Ukrainian soldiers in the city.
On the other hand, Kolykhaev called on the residents to follow the demands of the Russian forces, in order not to lose lives, but also for the Ukrainian flag to continue to fly. Conditions include: the establishment of a curfew from 20.00 to 06.00, the exit to the street will be a maximum of two people and not larger groups, only cars with food, medicine and other supplies will be allowed to enter the city and they must move at minimum speed
“Russian invaders are every corner of Kherson and are very dangerousGennady Lakhuta, head of the regional administration, told AFP.
A number of Ukrainian cities are under intense bombardment, which made Wednesday the most devastating day of the war to date. Hundreds of dead are estimated to have been caused by Russian missiles in Mariupol. Some Russian warships have left Crimea and are heading to Odessa.
It is warned that a giant amphibious ship attack is being prepared on Ukraine’s third largest city. But although in Kiev there have already been 4 powerful new explosions, the capital is still resisting. Russian attempts to encircle Kiev have slowed down and the giant convoy heading towards it from the north, during yesterday barely moved from the country.
Russia itself acknowledged for the first time that it had also suffered deep losses from the incursion with nearly 500 troops killed and 1,600 wounded. Ukraine claims that Moscow’s losses are much greater than that.
