The former New Tourism in the northeastern city has been described as one of the most beautiful facilities in the country, but today it has been completely destroyed, denying the development of tourism, although the opportunities are numerous.
For more than two decades, this building is day by day moving towards the end of its existence. Inerts, urban waste, bushes and thorns, have invaded every space of it.
Nuhi Elezi, singer, former employee remembers that once this place was frequented by Kukës and foreigners. From 1991, for 4 years in a row, Nuhiu sang every night from the civic songs of Gjakova to those of the province of Kukes.
“Every family member who came to us from Kosovo, we brought him here. It was one of the most beautiful bars and restaurants we had in the Northeast area. It’s a pity how it is today in a rubbish dump where many young people also use it badly. The state must decide to return this facility to operation. Not the state, the private can revive tourism. It is one of the most beautiful places we have, with this we are proud even though today the situation is miserable “, says Nuhi.
While Alida’s graduation would be the first but also the last that they would do on the evening of graduation, because from that moment, the former Tourism began to be no longer used. The former graduate, while showing how her every space was crowded, at the same time feels regret for the total degradation of the building with the most beautiful architecture that Kukës has.
“In 1996, everything that was here was closed. After that, until the end of the Kosovo war, only the hotel where foreign representatives working in Kukës were accommodated served. “It’s good to think and work to revitalize it,” he says Alida Hasani, former graduate.
New Tourism was built in 1988, on a dominant hill in the city. It was opened in 1991 where it was used until 1996. Since then the former Tourism is only being destroyed, as well as being used from a young age without criteria. The owners of the land where the former New Tourism is located to date have not allowed or found ways to allow the restructuring of this Kuksian tourism identity facility.
