The German government has recently approved a $ 3.15 billion contract to purchase Covid-19 vaccines by 2029.
Contracts with five manufacturing companies will be made to secure supply “in the event of a continuation of the Covid-19 pandemic, local authorities said.
The companies BioNTech, CureVac / GSK, Wacker / CordenPharma, Celonic and IDT, will receive annual payments on demand, with the possibility of increasing or reducing production as needed.
“Since there was a shortage of supply at the beginning of the epidemic we are securing production for years to come,” said Economic Affairs Minister Robert Habeck, although countries are lifting restrictions believing the pandemic is ending.
Germany says about 200 million doses of vaccine have been used since the pandemic began in the country. / Reuters /
