Albanian businesses increased the volume of exports and imports of goods from Durrës during the first months of this year. Chromium and cement are at the top of the export list, while construction materials, melamine and iron, as well as wheat continue to dominate imported goods for years.
Statistics of the largest port in the country, that of Durrës, show that the processing of goods in the first quarter of 2022 has increased by 7 percent, while the most significant increase has been exports by 40% more, or 98,310 tons more goods exported, compared to the same period of 2021.
In the processing of goods, the best month was March, which marked 44% more, or 101 thousand tons more goods than March 2021.
During the period January-March in the port of Durrës were processed 933, 895 tons of goods from ships and ferries that have transported them by sea. Official statistics show that there has been an increase in the number of passengers who have chosen to travel by ferry through the sea lines that connect Durrës with Italian ports.
The partial lifting of anti-covid restrictions in the first months of this year led to an increase in the number of passengers between the two countries. 110 thousand passengers and over 42 thousand cars, trailers and freight trucks have traveled by ferries, figures which compared to the same period of 2021, reflect an increase of 27%, or 21,791 more passengers.
