In today’s meeting of the Municipal Council, where important draft decisions were reviewed and approved for the transformation of the capital, but also to give impetus to the ambitious program of Tirana as “European Youth Capital 2022”, the mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj gave the good news that there will be an additional fund to support the sports clubs Tirana, Partizani and Studenti.
Veliaj underlined that the Municipality of Tirana has a clear focus on investments for sports in the capital.
“We as a municipality are the owners of all sports clubs, except football, where we are only partially. But, even in football, the court decision gave us the right, where the Albanian Football Federation recognized the Regional Association of Tirana. The message we gave with that battle is that you in Tirana do not violate fair play, do not play with fouls, do not score goals with your hand and do not steal votes. Once we were recognized by the court as an Association, we will give an importance to football as well. I am not talking here about elite football, but about over 250 clubs where young children go around the neighborhoods, in those sports fields that the municipality has invested, and now that the association is known by the court and that battle was rewarded with a pair of fair elections and not stolen in Tirana, we will also respond with our finances “, stressed Veliaj.
The mayor listed some of the sports facilities that will soon serve the children and citizens of Tirana.
“Within this month we have some areas that we will take over, such as the areas at the Lake, after a 20-year contract concluded with the private sector. It is the same thing that happened at “7 dwarfs” – the municipality took it, it did not become a palace, but on the land of the municipality there was a public parking lot, and a toy corner above the parking lot. As we have received at the end of these contracts many of the properties that have been returned to the municipality and made available to citizens, we will do the same in the fields of Dajti Sports Club. I saw the hysteria that was created there as well – their 20-year contract expired, the municipality will take them, they will reinvest them to turn it back into another football field. We will also return the pools to the Swimming Federation “, Veliaj affirmed.
