Iran today decided to close the country’s land borders for 15 days as part of measures taken against the Omicron variant of COVID.
Rouhollah Latifi, customs spokesman in a statement to the Iranian Workers’ News Agency (ILNA) gave information about the new measures taken due to the Omicron variant.
He said the land borders will be closed for 15 days for the passage of passengers but trade entrances and exits will continue.
“The decision was taken within the request of the National Board for the Fight against Corona in order to prevent the spread of the Omicron variant,” said Latifi, who added that from today the land borders with Turkey, Iraq, Afghanistan, Azerbaijan will be closed. , Armenia and Pakistan.
According to him, during this period, those who have permanent residence permits, education, trade and health visas can enter and leave the land border points. Latifi said trade activities will continue as before.
The customs spokesman underlined that the border crossings between Turkmenistan and Iran have not been opened for the passage of passengers since the beginning of the pandemic until today.
