On Saturday, thousands of Iranians, supporters of the People’s Mujahideen Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK) and the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI) held a rally in Stockholm, Sweden.
Several Swedish MPs and well-known European politicians also participated in this march.
The mass gathering comes after a Stockholm court sentenced Hamid Noury, an Iranian prison official involved in the 1988 massacre, to life in prison.
Noury was arrested in 2019 in Sweden in the context of Universal Jurisdiction and for his participation in the 1988 genocide of 30,000 political prisoners, mostly MEK members.
The court’s decision also emphasized that MEK members were the main target of this genocide.
Noury’s trial featured harrowing accounts from survivors of the massacre of those dark days at Gohardasht prison in Karaj, west of Tehran, where Noury worked as deputy prison director.
Simultaneously with his trial, which lasted 33 months, MEK supporters and family members of the 1988 victims staged a protest in front of the court.
The rally’s message was the need to hold accountable all the perpetrators of the 1988 massacre, including the regime’s current president Ebrahim Raisi, a member of Tehran’s “Death Commission,” which was responsible for sentencing prisoners to death.
