On the occasion of Kurban Bayram, the Municipality of Tirana hosted a festive lunch in all social centers for families in need, the elderly and people with special abilities.
Mayor Erion Veliaj congratulated the Muslim faithful, serving lunch at the “Gonxhe Bojaxhi” Community Center in the River Bank area. He said that after the earthquake and the pandemic, Tirana rose stronger.
“Happy Kurban Bayram! It’s always a pleasure to return to our social hubs. Here on the Riverbank we have stood up with the new houses we are building, and with this social center, where we take care of little princesses and princes as a family. In holidays like today’s, be it Kurban Bajrami or any other holiday, regardless of our faith, we show that we are members of a community”, said Veliaj.
The mayor said that the Municipality of Tirana will stand by people in need, opening new community centers. “We have built a fantastic center in Kombinat, we will add one in Laprakë and in each of the new neighborhoods we are building to house families affected by the earthquake. If we come out of the disaster better than we were, it means that we have turned the disaster into an opportunity”, he added.
The head of the Municipality also stopped at the reconstruction process, as the first families are entering the new apartments in the new “5 Maji” neighborhood. “I can’t wait to return to this more and more reconstructed, more and more beautiful and organized neighborhood. I am glad that the first families have entered the new neighborhood on “5 May”, we will continue with the other families as well”, he said.
Veliaj assured that the families affected by the reconstruction process will be compensated 100 percent. “Even for those who had built their houses earlier, they will benefit from the same number of square meters as they had. We want to make sure that no one is left behind trying to rebuild after the earthquake. But it takes a lot of patience and a lot of faith. If we doubt each other, if we question each other for everything, then we are a society without faith. I know that there are politicians who sow strife, poison and division between us – who say that the houses will never be built or that the “Sami Frashëri” school will be built in Paskuqan – but these are lies. If we have faith in each other, if we help and encourage each other, we can do and we will do wonderful things”, underlined Veliaj.
During the day, the Municipality of Tirana has organized various activities for solidarity with groups in need.
