The spread of the new variant of the coronavirus, Omicron has forced the Montenegrin authorities to tighten anti-COVID measures.
From today at all border crossings of Montenegro travelers who want to enter the Montenegrin territory, in addition to the COVID certificate will be required to test negative PCR, or rapid test. When travelers claim to cross the Montenegrin border, they must not have received more than 6 months after receiving the second dose of the COVID vaccine.
In cases where a traveler does not meet this condition, Health Minister Jelena Borovinic has indicated that the person will face self-isolation for ten days.
This self-isolation can be interrupted if after three days the person tests negative for COVID. New anti-covid measures have also been imposed in relation to hotels and restaurants, where citizens must present a vaccination certificate to enter. Health authorities in Podgorica said 2,407 people had died since the outbreak of the pandemic in Montenegro. The director of the Institute of Public Health, Igor Galic, said that in the last two weeks an increase of 81 percent of new cases has been registered.
Since the start of the pandemic, according to Montenegrin health authorities, 44 percent of Montenegrin citizens have concerns, while a third are in constant anxiety.
The increase in cases of COVID-19 has led Montenegro to tighten measures which are not yet known until when they will be in force.
