NATO and Ukraine signed an agreement on technological cooperation developed after the cyber attacks on Ukrainian institutions, reports Anadolu Agency (AA).
According to a statement from NATO, the document signed today updated the memorandum of understanding which provides for the continuation of cooperation on technology projects between the two countries.
Under the agreement, NATO experts carry out the “Information Sharing Initiative” which provides for the sharing of NATO practices in the development of skills in command, control, communication and computer systems.
The Director General of the NATO Communications and Information Agency, Ludwig Decamps, who signed the agreement, said that the renewed agreement will deepen the support that NATO gives to Ukraine for the modernization of communication technologies and services.
He stressed that they will determine in which areas Ukrainian personnel will be trained. “Our experts are ready to continue this critical partnership,” Decamps said.
The first agreement providing for technological cooperation between NATO and Ukraine was signed in 2015. Under this agreement, a program is being developed to provide coordination and early warning for the security of Ukraine’s airspace.
Several state institutions, including the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry, faced cyber attacks. Ukraine claims that Russia is behind the attacks.
NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg said after the attacks that NATO experts were providing support to the Ukrainian authorities. “In the coming days, NATO and Ukraine will sign an agreement on developed cyber cooperation, which includes Ukraine’s access to the ‘Knowledge Sharing Platform’ belonging to NATO,” Stoltenberg said.
