European Commission chief Ursula von der Leyen is currently speaking in the European Parliament about proposals for a new round of sanctions against Russia.
She said the proposals include a total ban on imports of all Russian oil, saying supplies would be cut off continuously within six months.
“We will gradually cut off Russian supplies of crude oil within six months. “The EU will also plan to discontinue refined products imposed by Russia by the end of the year.”– said Von der Leyen.
This sixth round of sanctions will ban three Russian state broadcasters from broadcasting in the European Union.
He will also identify senior military officers and other individuals who have committed war crimes in Ukraine since the beginning of the occupation in late February.
“We know who you are, you will not be saved by this.” She said.
Von der Leyen also proposed that Sberbank, Russia’s largest bank, and two other major banks be disconnected from Swift’s international banking payment system.
Proposals must be approved unanimously to enter into force and are likely to be the subject of heated debate.
