The strong increase in the price of fuel has forced fishermen in Vlora to turn off the engines of fishing boats.
For almost 10 days they have stopped their activity by anchoring the trawlers in the quays of Triport of Vlora.
The doubling of the price of oil used by fishermen for fishing boats has increased costs that they say are becoming unaffordable making life more difficult for their families.
But rising fuel prices have prompted fishermen to raise the price of fish and aquatic products as consumers in markets are paying more for their purchase.
There are about 80 fishing boats operating in the port of Vlora and the situation of rising prices affects quite a few individuals who have fishing as their only job that provides income from it.
For about a month the situation in the triport speaks with the language of silence. On such days almost all the trawlers had to be on the high seas to carry out their activity, but for more than 1 month, he finds them all anchored in the piers of Triport. The increase in the price of oil, say the fishermen, has made our work towards bankruptcy. Once they used to get it for 65 lekë with 70 lekë per liter, today we get it for 160 lekë. We want at least 500 thousand old fuel for a few hours at sea, and these prices do not justify hunting.
Thus, according to the fishermen, the scandalous situation of the infrastructural conditions in Triport has now been added another big problem, the increase of the oil price has blocked their daily activity, making the living of the family more difficult.
Meanwhile, the price of oil has been accompanied by an increase in the price of fish. The fact a statement not only from fishermen, but also in markets trading products, aquatic creatures. And yet fishermen say that normally we have slightly increased the price of fish, but fish markets or fish shops are the ones that increase it the most which makes us the most hit layer.
The fishing port in Vlora has long been a concern for fishermen who operate their own boats and according to them the port for years has lost the status of being a fishing port as it does not offer any conditions to work. Earlier, unemployment in the port forced many fishermen to quit their jobs and operate fishing boats from Egypt.
About 80 fishing boats operate in this port while this place has a long coastline as a precious space for this activity.
