Northern Macedonia on Tuesday registered 1,197 new cases of the new coronavirus and 15 deaths, the highest figure in eight months.
According to the report of the Ministry of Health, the victims are 4 in Skopje, 3 in Bitola, 2 in Ohrid and Valandovo, and 1 in Prilep, Veles, Gevgelija and Negotino.
The largest number of infected was registered in Skopje, a total of 766 new cases.
The data is based on testing 7,483 samples in state and private laboratories in northern Macedonia.
The Institute of Public Health announced that as of Tuesday, the number of active cases had risen to 5,667 from the 227,000 people diagnosed with COVID-19 since the outbreak of the pandemic. So far 7,996 people have lost their lives.
The leaders of the health institutions have assessed the epidemiological situation as stable despite the increase of cases in the last two days.
The Ministry of Health on Tuesday also called for the implementation of measures against the pandemic, now on the eve of the Orthodox Christmas holidays. In addition, the health department has appealed for vaccination, which remains low.
In Northern Macedonia, currently about 39 percent of the population, or over 810,000 people, have been vaccinated with two doses./REL
