Leaders of opposition parties in Kosovo said that a final agreement with Serbia should be made without compromising the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Kosovo.
He made the remarks during a meeting Tuesday with US Special Representative for the Western Balkans Gabriel Escobar and European Union Special Representative for Dialogue Miroslav Lajcak.
The leader of the Democratic Party of Kosovo, Memli Krasniqi, said that he supports the dialogue as a mechanism for reaching a final agreement with Serbia.
“PDK supports dialogue as a mechanism for reaching a final final agreement between Kosovo and Serbia, which ensures mutual recognition, without compromising state sovereignty, territorial integrity and constitutional order,” he said.
Meanwhile, the head of the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo, Ramush Haradinaj, stressed that a final agreement with Serbia can not be reached without the active role of the United States.
“I reiterated our commitment to a comprehensive, legally binding agreement, which has the epilogue of mutual recognition within the existing borders and respects the constitutional order of the Republic of Kosovo, which can only be achieved with the active role of the United States,” he said. On January 31, Escobar and Lajçak kicked off their visit to Kosovo, meeting with Kosovo President Vjosa Osmani and Prime Minister Albin Kurti.
During a press conference, Escobar said that the United States fully supports Kosovo’s independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity.
The visit of Western diplomats from January 31 to February 4 will take place in Serbia. This five-day visit aims to encourage the leaders of the two countries for their engagement in dialogue.
Kosovo and Serbia have not held any high-level political meetings since July 2021.
The dialogue for the normalization of relations started in 2011, and this aims to reach a legally binding agreement./REL/
