Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said on Saturday that warnings of an imminent Russian attack on his country were causing panic. He demands strong evidence of a plan to invade his country.
“I think there is a lot of information about a large-scale war on the part of Russia,” he said. There is even talk of dates. We understand all the risks. We understand that the dangers are there. “If you or anyone has any additional information about a 100 percent chance of an invasion, give it to us.”
Zelensky’s comments came a day after U.S. National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan warned that a Russian attack on his western neighbor could “start at any time.” Ukrainian leaders have tried to dismiss the prospects of a full-scale war because of the detrimental effect it was having on the country’s plundered economy and public morale.
“I have to talk to our people as president and tell the truth to the people and the truth is that we have different information. Right now, the people’s biggest enemy is panic. “And all this information is just causing panic and they are not helping us,” he said.
Many Western countries demanded that their citizens leave Ukraine urgently convinced that there would be an invasion by Russia. More than 130,000 troops are stationed in eastern Ukraine, a large Russian military exercise is taking place on the border with Belarus, and the Russian Black Sea Fleet is in training.
