The police operation codenamed “SMUGGLING” is successfully finalized.
The group that carried out the illegal activity of smuggling citizens from third countries to EU countries is hit.
4 citizens are handcuffed, 2 of their collaborators are declared wanted, and 1 other citizen is prosecuted at large.
Specialists of the Investigation Section of Illegal Trafficking and Narcotics in DVP Dibër, in cooperation with the Special Operational Force in the General Directorate of State Police and the Dibër District Prosecutor’s Office, in the framework of criminal proceedings registered in 2021, for the prevention and crackdown on illegal activity of providing assistance to foreign nationals, for illegal border crossing, after several months of thorough investigative work, successfully organized and finalized the police operation codenamed “Smuggling”. As a result of this operation, the following citizens were arrested:
AM, 23 years old, originally from Syria, who had the role of organizer in this criminal activity;
DD, 39 years old, resident in Tirana; had the role of group assistant for the payment transfer.
AA, 20 years old; JK, 26 years old, both residents of Tirana;
The following citizens have been declared wanted: MA, originating from Syria, who provided the means of transport for crossing the border, and AM, originating from Syria, who assisted and accompanied the emigrants, mainly those from Syria, to cross the border with Kosovo, in order to move to EU countries.
During the operation, these citizens were caught red-handed in a hotel, ready to transport 5 Syrian citizens. Following the actions, criminal proceedings were instituted in a state of freedom for the criminal offense “Actions that hinder the discovery of the truth”, citizen PP, 68 years old.
From the conducted investigations and the collected evidence it has resulted that these citizens, in cooperation with each other, organized the passage of citizens of Syrian origin, from Turkey through Greece, entering the Albanian territory, their accommodation in different hotels in Tirana, finding of persons to carry out their transportation, following the Arbri road towards the city of Peshkopi, in order to cross them to Kosovo, Serbia and Hungary.
The amount of money each illegal immigrant paid ranged from 4,000 to 6,000 euros, which they made through money transfer companies.
Following the investigation, it was documented that these citizens are the perpetrators of two other cases of attempting to transport illegal immigrants, during January and February. As soon as they were ascertained by the Dibër Police services, these citizens, taking advantage of the darkness and difficult terrain, abandoned their vehicles and left.
As a result of this proceeding, in December 2021, SK and NK citizens were arrested in flagrante delicto by the Police, who were caught transporting Syrian citizens.
During the entire period of this operation, a total of 35 Syrian citizens were captured and escorted.
3 vehicles, a laptop, 12 mobile phones, 1000 euros and 5 passports were seized as material evidence.
Investigations are underway to identify other persons implicated in this criminal activity and to apprehend those declared wanted.
The procedural materials were forwarded to the Prosecutor’s Office of the Dibër Judicial District, for further action.
