Publication of data, Office of the Commissioner: Cooperation to prevent further spread

The Office of the Commissioner emphasizes that the publication of data, on the website or in the media, is an open and illegal source of information, in which anyone, inside and outside the country, has the opportunity to access this data in complete violation of the principles and legal processing criteria set out in law no. 9887/2008 “On the protection of personal data”, as amended.

Given the extremely large volume of data contained in this database, the Office of the Commissioner has requested effective cooperation and prompt institutional intervention to prevent the further dissemination of personal data online or through the media.

The Office of the Commissioner estimates that this event can cause serious consequences for the private, professional and family life of citizens and constitutes a very serious violation of their fundamental freedoms and rights enshrined in the Constitution of Albania.

We recall that the personal data together with the salaries of 630,000 Albanians were published this Wednesday in our country through a database.

This list was distributed through WhatsApp and is currently viral, while there are still no suspects, who may be their source and where they were distributed from.

The prosecution stated for Top Channel that it is still in the verification phase and can not determine whether the leak of this data occurred from e-albania.

Earlier, a database processed with the personal data of Albanian citizens was accessed during the elections.

For this file christened “Patronageists”, SPAK did not conclude whether this process was related or not to corruption in the elections, but delegated the investigation to the capital’s prosecutor’s office, which is still under investigation.
