The staff of the Rome Zoo came up with a special idea to help the animals cope with the scorching temperatures of these days that have plagued the Italian capital, as well as other parts of Europe.
They did not distribute the food in the usual form, but gave them frozen fruits, meat and fish.
Shadows, ponds of cold water, even showers for elephants: everything has been done with the aim of helping the animals of this garden in the midst of the heat wave that this year, arrived faster than expected.
“We did not expect this kind of heat so quickly, and I do not know, but I was desperate for our animals. I hope that not all summer will be like this, because with these record temperatures, it will be difficult for everyone to have it “said Yitzhak Yadid, General Curator Bioparco di Roma.
“We decided to give the animals frozen food to better cope with this scalding. You know, more or less like people do, who eat ice cream to cool off. It also helps them get out of the routine”, Said Yitzhak Yadid, General Curator Bioparco di Roma.
Temperatures in Rome approached 40 degrees Celsius, a record for June.
In addition to the difficulties that this situation brings especially for the residents, in some regions like Lazio it has worsened the drought by forcing the authorities to think about restrictions on water use.
