Former MP Rudina Hajdari has reacted after the defeat of the Democratic Party in the by-elections of March 6, saying that with Lulzim Basha and Sali Berisha, the Democratic Party will go to extinction.
“As a former PD deputy, this hurts me, and as Azem Hajdari’s daughter, this terrifies me,” Hajdari said about the results of the March 6 elections.
She calls on Basha and Berisha to end the absurdity and destruction of the DP, to withdraw to give way to a new leadership, with vision, passion, energy and without burdens from the past.
Full post:
I have no words to describe the horrible feeling I had yesterday when I saw that the Party founded by my father and hundreds of brave students, who fought with the communist regime to install democracy in Albania, was reduced by the force that brought freedom and democracy to a small party without electoral support.
As a former PD deputy, this hurts me, and as Azem Hajdari’s daughter, this terrifies me. PD is not the property of either Lulzim Basha or Sali Berisha, which they can spend, misuse, destroy according to their personal interest. DP is the foundation of Albanian democracy.
Foundation washed with the blood of the people who gave their lives for him and with the sweat of the brow of hundreds of thousands of citizens who believed and fought for an Albania where he lives with dignity and freedom. Therefore, today I want to call on both Basha and Berisha to put an end to the absurdity and destruction of the DP, to follow both and to open the way for a race which will enable the arrival in the DP of a new leadership, with vision, with passion. , with energy and no loads from the past.
I call on all Democrats not to be silent anymore, not to bow down to those who are destroying the Democratic Party but to unite to seek a new direction. The DP has been the party that has made Albanians dream of Europe, of a bright and prosperous future. The DP has the opportunity to carry out this mission again, but this is not achieved with either Basha or Berisha.
If they continue their battle for loot and small interests, the PD will leave only a few pages in the history of Albania. They no longer inspire anyone, yesterday’s results clearly show this.
Every democrat, every militant, every official, every PD deputy who has not entered there for plunder but for ideals and passion must today rise up and save the PD from destruction and extinction. TODAY! Tomorrow will be late!
Most members of the Democratic Party Group have demanded the resignation of party leader Lulzim Basha during a four-hour meeting the day before, following the failure of the March 6 by-elections in six municipalities.
Agron Gjekmarkaj decided to resign as deputy chairman of the Democratic Party, while Dashnor Sula stated that he is ready to leave the post of deputy, if the current situation in the Democratic Party does not change.
During the meeting, only Flamur Hoxha, Arbi Agalliu and Oriola Pampuri were on Basha’s side, while the rest were in favor of resigning from the post and holding elections in the party.
The leader of the Democratic Party, Lulzim Basha continues not to accept the deep defeat in the local by-elections, where not only could not get any municipality, but was ranked third force with fewer votes than Sali Berisha’s coalition with the SMI and the PDK.
The March 6 elections had a great value for the democratic electorate, where it was expected to show the support of the Democrats who for months now have been divided on two fronts, those who support Basha and those who support Berisha.
The Socialist Party managed to get five of the six municipalities in the race, Vora, Rrogoshina, Dibra, Lushnja and Durres, while the “House of Freedom” coalition won in Shkodra.
