A Russian soldier on trial for war crimes in Ukraine has pleaded guilty to killing an unarmed civilian.

Vadim Shishimarin is accused of killing a 62-year-old unarmed civilian with a firearm in the days after the occupation began and will face life in prison.

Prosecutors say more trials are expected to follow, after identifying thousands of possible crimes committed by Russian forces.

Moscow has denied that its troops targeted civilians.
