Last year, the former high international representative for Bosnia, Valentin Inzko, declared the denial of genocide and war crimes illegal, making it a such act punishable by imprisonment.
The Srebrenica incident took place five months before the end of the war in Bosnia in 1995. So far, 47 people have been sentenced to more than 700 years in prison for their roles in the massacre. The former leader of the Bosnian Serbs, Radovan Karadzic, has been sentenced to life in prison, as has the former military leader in Bosnia, Ratko Mlladic.
The remains of 50 people, recently identified, were laid to rest at the Potoçari Memorial Center – where the graves of over 6,670 other victims are located. Meanwhile, during the Kosovo war, around 13,000 people have been killed, over 800,000 have been displaced, while around 6,000 have disappeared. More than 1,600 people remain missing to this day.
