A distribution driver nicknamed “superhero” today in the Vietnamese capital Hanoi after rescuing a 2-year-old girl who fell from a 12th floor balcony.
31-year-old Nguyen Ngoc Manh, was sitting in his car while waiting for the next shipment on Sunday afternoon, when he heard the baby crying, he said after the event for the local network Anninhthudo. A woman started screaming and he stuck his head out to see what was happening.
He said he initially believed the baby was angry but soon realized it was something else as they were about 50 feet high.
“I saw the little girl crawling out on the balcony,” he said, adding that he immediately climbed onto a building to approach in case the child fell.
“I climbed a two-meter-high roof, positioning myself to catch the girl.”
Nguyen climbed onto the building where the generators were kept, and said he lost his balance when the child fell, but was released forward to catch him and after the impact the two made a hole in the sheet metal roof.
“I tried to reach out to catch him, hoping to at least stop him from falling directly to the ground.”
In the scene of the incident, taken from the apartments opposite, the child is seen coming out on the edge of the balcony, while the neighbors are screaming in horror.
“Fortunately, the baby fell into my lap. I hugged him but then I saw blood flowing from his mouth. “I was very scared.”
The child was taken to hospital and local media said he had suffered a pelvic dislocation, but no other injuries. Dr. Le Ngoc Duy, said the baby was placed in plaster and is being monitored.
