Technology, which is increasingly taking its place among the younger generation, is today at the center of the development of public spaces in the capital, especially libraries, which are increasingly transformed in function of technology.
The Mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj, during the award ceremony of the competition “BiblioTech Challenge”, said that Tirana will return to the center of technology.
“We want Tirana to be a super space for technology. One of the things that is being transformed as we speak is the Pyramid of Tirana, which will be a much larger space than the Olympic Park, where children can learn how to code. “If our parents’ generation should know Russian to move forward in life, my generation should know English, and your generation should know computer languages because that is the language of the future.” said Veliaj.
While congratulating the young talents of Tirana who presented their ideas during the days of the competition, Veliaj said that Bibliotech with the focus on technology as much as the book, is the library of the future.
“We have taken the initiative to turn libraries into spaces where we can learn coding and computer language. The library in 2021 can not only be for books, but it will also be a space where different youth organizations, or children, can come together to develop an activity, to propose a new decision-making. Bibliotech, with its focus on technology, as much as the book, is the library of the future. I am very happy that together with UNICEF we have transformed the library not only as a book space, but as a technological space. I am also very proud that today we have 8 libraries in Tirana. The plan is to have 27, in all units of Tirana, because the future is of technology “, Veliaj further stated.
From robotics to digital books, the ideas of the young people who participated in the “BiblioTech Challenge” were evaluated by a professional jury and at the end several awards were given.
