A British man has been found dead and a woman he was with was seriously injured in a luxury hotel room in Italy, allegedly after an erotic game gone tragically wrong, local police said.
The 40-year-old man, who has not been publicly named, was found dead in his room next to a 43-year-old woman, believed to be his wife, who was found with multiple cuts and scrapes.
Staff at the four-star Hotel Continentale, near the famous ‘Ponte Vecchio’ bridge in Florence, called the police when the woman called for help.
Doctors rushed to the hotel and took him to the city’s Careggi hospital where he is reported to be in a stable condition.
The couple had arrived at the hote on Friday evening and raised the alarm on Saturday morning.
A police source told the MailOnline daily: “Both people involved are British and we are currently investigating the theory of an erotic game gone wrong, or domestic violence following some sort of argument between the two.”
“The man was found with a series of cuts and scratches, and other wounds on his body. The woman also had the same wounds, even somewhat more severe, but the man is believed to have suffered an epileptic seizure.
“There is blood in the room and the groups are working with the investigations.”
Officials added that the woman’s condition remains serious but stable with non-life-threatening injuries.
The hotel is advertised in tourist guides as $450 a night and is frequented by couples on honeymoons or romantic weekends.
