The Mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj, thanked the law enforcement bodies for bringing to justice some employees, who are suspected of abusing their duties near the cemetery in Tufina.
“I thank the Prosecutor’s Office and the Police of Tirana for the help. At the Tufina cemetery, we have had a concern for a long time, where a community of realtors, inherited for years, booked graves. Cemeteries are public, not private. There is a law that allows private cemeteries and whoever wants to make private cemeteries must follow the legal procedures, reserve land, family graves and everything else, but not in public cemeteries. I don’t know if those 6-7 arrested are guilty, the police should say that, but the expression “he who makes another’s grave, falls in himself” in this case is not just a metaphor. I want to ask the police and the prosecutor’s office to continue cooperation with the Municipality of Tirana. I thank both the leaders of the Prosecutor’s Office of Tirana and the leaders of the Tirana Police for the help they gave us”said Veliaj.
