The Association for Local Autonomy and the Association of Municipalities of Albania have been unified with a unanimous decision of all mayors convened this Tuesday by the mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj.
According to him, the initiative paves the way for joint presentation in an organization of 61 municipalities of the country.
“Finally, we have arrived at a day where we are behaving like any other European country. We have been divided for a long time, let’s face it! In fact, the associations, in addition to the formal names, have been an association of the left and one of the right, but today I am glad that, for the first time, we have a representation from Shkodra, the only elected representation, which is the president of the Council ”.
According to Veliaj, with today’s unification, decisions will be easier.
“This unification has really turned into a more difficult job for the mayor of the local unit, but decisions are made more easily. Put a man and we have no cic-mice between the municipalities who builds a bridge, and on one side of the river is the left on the other the right, whereas the bridge was never made. Today these decisions are made and we move forward. Today was just a unanimous political decision to make this unification. We will propose to appoint a working group composed of our two executive directors and in a period not longer than 30 days, to have a technical solution which we will then have to reflect in court.
