The Ministry of Defense has reacted regarding the issue of non-intervention from the air to extinguish the flames on the island of Sazan.
Through a notice, the Defense states that the Armed Forces is ready to intervene helicopters but that in the specifics of their use have restrictions to participate and fulfill tasks in cases of different types of emergency operations.
Notice:
The Armed Forces have at their disposal and have at their disposal the necessary flying equipment, intended for use in fulfilling the tasks and operations that they have to perform even in case of emergencies such as fires.
The Armed Forces has light helicopters on standby, but in the specifics of their use have limitations to participate and fulfill tasks in cases of different types of emergency operations. The Air Force has state-of-the-art helicopters equipped with medical emergency operations equipment, as well as modern, fourth-generation modern military helicopters.
As a rule they are subject to strict maintenance and repair requirements, based on periods of use and flight time. In this process, a number of Cougar military helicopters, who have long been active participants in numerous emergency operations in times of floods, fires, earthquakes, extreme weather conditions, to help the community, to participate in drills and in the Armed Forces, as well as those with NATO developed in our country, have gone through the process of maintenance and readiness, to the third level of maintenance, a process that is done only by plants abroad, specified for this modern equipment level.
While a part of Cugar helicopters repaired through the new practice of cooperation with the NATO Procurement Agency (NSPA) are located in Albania.
Meanwhile, for any situation and real need when the lives of people or homes are endangered, Albania cooperates with the European Union Civil Protection Mechanism, Emergency Response Coordination Center (ERCC) and in cooperation with its partners is able to guarantee security.
Neighboring countries also use this mechanism to meet their needs in case of emergencies. As we have said before, our internal capacities are limited. Meanwhile, countries such as Turkey, Greece or Italy rely on the European mechanism, because specific natural emergencies can not be met only with internal capacities.
In the media attention we recall that the organization table and equipment of the Armed Forces, numbers and related documents are considered classified information confidential.
