Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov has dismissed US intelligence reports that Russia has a list of Ukrainians to capture or kill them after an invasion, calling it an “absolute lie.”
In a letter to UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Michelle Bachelet, Washington’s ambassador to the UN in Geneva wrote that Russian forces were creating lists of Ukrainians “to be killed or sent to camps after a military occupation.”
The U.S. Embassy in Moscow has also warned Americans of possible attacks on public places in Russia, saying they should have evacuation plans.
Peskov described the warning as “very unusual”. He told reporters that the situation in eastern Ukraine remained “tense”.
But while the Kremlin has denied having concrete plans for a summit between the US and Russian presidents, he said he remains open to talks.
“There is an understanding that the dialogue should continue at the level of foreign ministers,” Peskov said.
“If necessary, of course, the Russian and American presidents may decide to hold a phone call or connect by other methods.”
