The railway operator in Finland decided to suspend from Monday the train line connecting Helsinki and St. Petersburg, thus closing one of the last transport lines between Russia and the EU.
In a statement from VR Group operating on the line between Helsinki and St. Petersburg, said VR will discontinue the service until further notice.
“On Sunday, March 27, only the morning train from Helsinki to St. Petersburg will operate and the afternoon train will be canceled,” the company added.
“So far we have continued the services, according to the instructions of the relevant authorities and making sure that we can provide a safe passage for Finnish citizens. During these weeks, people who have wanted to leave Russia have had enough time to leave. “Now, due to sanctions, we will terminate the service,” said a spokesman.
