The military in Burkina Faso has said it has seized power through a coup.
The announcement was made on television by a military official, who said the Government and Parliament had been dispersed.
It is not yet known where the president, Roch Kaboré, is, but the military official said all detainees were in a safe location.
The coup comes a day after military troops occupied the barracks and shots were heard in the capital.
Earlier, the People’s Movement for Progress party said Kabore and a government minister had survived an assassination attempt.
On Sunday, insurgents demanded the dismissal of military chiefs and more resources to fight Islamist militants.
