The port of Durres has become one of the main points where emigrants from the Middle East and Arab countries try to use it to go to Italy.
They tend to go through these bars, to get on ferries, to go to the neighboring country. But there are few who can do it. Tonight we had the opportunity to communicate with two of the migrants, from Libya and Morocco, who could not board the ferry.
-What are you doing here in Albania?
“I want to go to Italy. I want to go there because I know it costs 15 euros an hour and the living is very good. My name is Ahmid Ayub and I am from Libya. I tried several times to cross the port of Durres, but it was impossible. The security guards do not leave. “They have their job, and they try to keep it, so they don’t leave me.”
– Where do you stay in Durrës, and with what money do you survive?
“I am staying at the hotel. My father often sends me money by transfers. This is the way I live. I have been in Albania for 9 months. I came from Turkey, Greece and then on foot to Albania. Take a look at me as I hold my hands. “I have them because I try every week to cross the railings to get on the ferry, but it has been impossible.”
Ahmid has also learned a little Albanian, to ask for money when he can not provide food and sleep.
“O husband, oh uncle, oh my friend, forgive me 1 thousand lek. I have no house, no money, no bread. Albanian men give, from two thousand lek, three thousand lek “.
Mustafa Fele, is another young man from Morocco who wants to go to Italy, where his two sisters live.
– Mustafa, have you tried to go to Italy through the port of Durres?
“I tried, but it was impossible.”
– Every day you try to pass?
“Not every day. We try it about three or four times a week, because then we have no more power. “We need to gather strength.”
