New York Attorney General Letitia James has taken legal action to force former US President Donald Trump and his two children, Donald Trump, Jr. and Ivanka Trump, to present their evidence as part of the investigation into the Trump Organization’s financial arrangements, her office has said.
“For more than two years, the Trump Organization has been using delays tactics to appear in court, trying to obstruct legitimate investigations into its financial arrangements,” James said in a statement.
“In our investigations to date, we have found evidence that suggests that Donald Trump and the Trump Organization have misjudged some assets and misinterpreted these values for economic gain.”
New York prosecutors are investigating whether Trump and his company cheated banks and tax officials about asset values in order to obtain favorable loans.
The Office of the Prosecutor General has not yet made a final decision regarding the data provided so far, but said that “the reasons for continuing the investigation are self-evident.”
Earlier this month, Trump’s lawyers introduced a motion to block calls for interviews, considering the investigations politically motivated.
The former US president is facing a host of legal battles.
In Washington, he is trying to prevent a Democrat-launched probe into violence in Congress on January 6 last year.
