The European Union is expected to announce an agreement under which the United States will supply the European bloc with liquefied natural gas in order to replace Russian imports.
The United States is expected to supply at least 15 billion cubic meters of liquefied natural gas by the end of the year, the Reuters news agency reported.
European nations are trying to reduce their dependence on Russian oil and gas following the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
The European Union has pledged to halt its use of Russian gas by two-thirds this year.
Speaking Thursday evening, Belgian Prime Minister Alexander de Croo welcomed the decision, saying it would help lower gas prices in Europe.
