Former Rangers and Manchester United Scottish goalkeeper Andy Goram passed away on Saturday at the age of 58. He had announced at the end of May that he was suffering from an incurable disease.
On May 30, Goram revealed to the newspaper “Daily Record” that doctors had given him about six months to live. Even if he had undergone chemotherapy, he would not have lived more than three more months.
The news was announced on Saturday by the Scottish club: “Rangers Football Club is deeply saddened to announce the passing of our legendary goalkeeper, Andy Goram, after a short battle with cancer.”
In a fan poll in 1999 he was voted the best goalkeeper in Rangers history. Andy made a total of 260 appearances for Rangers between 1991 and 1998, winning five league titles, three Scottish Cups and two League Cups. In addition, he played 43 games for Scotland and was the starting goalkeeper at Euro 1992 and 1996.
After this stage at the Scottish club, he played for Notts County, Sheffield United, Motherwell, Manchester United, Hamilton, Coventry, Oldham, Queen of the South and Elgin. Goram was part of the Manchester United side that won the Premier League in 2001.
